Abstract
Cyanobacteria are gram-negative diverse group of unicellular to filamentous photoautotrophs. They are found ubiquitously in nature. Ability of the cyanobacteria for nitrogen fixation and phosphorous solubilization makes them promising biofertilizers, and their plant growth-promoting potential in the rhizosphere makes them a suitable candidate for sustainable agriculture. Cyanobacteria in the rhizosphere and their importance in tropical ecosystems have been highlighted in this chapter.
