Summary
In the present paper a method to construct approximations to a renormalizable field theory is presented. The obtained approximations preserve the renormalizability character of the complete theory and therefore can be advantageously used to study the properties of the renormalization group. For the sake of simplicity, we refer to the self-coupled neutral-boson-field theory with the interaction Lagrangian ℒI=gϕ 4.

Note that in our case\(G(x_1 x_2 x_3 x_4 ) = \left\langle {\varphi _0 |T\varphi (x_1 )\varphi (x_2 )\varphi (x_3 )\varphi (x_4 )|\varphi _0 } \right\rangle ,\) whereϕ(x)=ϕ + (x)+ϕ − (x) contains the creation and destruction part. This explains the difference between the Nozières’s equations (3.42), (3.43) and our equation (2).
