On Oil Source Strata (Some Recent Aspects of Sedimentary Migration Naphthydogenesis Theory)

Abstract

Natural processes that contradict the common organic (sedimentary migration) oil generation theory were revealed by the study of hydrocarbon biomarker distribution regularities at the molecular level in particulate organic matter of rocks, in oil, and kerogen thermolysis products. This paper presents specific examples of oil (concentrated organic matter) generation directly in the reservoir, i.e., the reduced naphthydogenesis process, which excludes migration. Along with this, these examples do not rule out the migration of organic matter from the oil source strata; in fact, they are an exception the proves the general rule. It is necessary to study organic matter, organic carbon (Сorg), chloroform bitumen (CB “A”), Rock-Eval pyrolysis, etc. and to support conclusions with detailed data on hydrocarbon composition at the molecular level.
