Mitigation of FWM effect in DWDM-RoF system using OQPSK modulation

Abstract

In this paper, a novel technique to mitigate the effects of Four Wave Mixing (FWM) in Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) Radio over Fiber (RoF) system is introduced. Using Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (OQPSK) modulation, the FWM effect in an 8-channel DWDM system is mitigated to a great extent. With a data rate of 10 Gbps per channel, this system can provide a total capacity of 80 Gbps. The performance of this system is compared with different modulation techniques such as Non-return-to-zero (NRZ), Duobinary, Modified Duobinary, Alternate mark inversion (AMI) and Integrated-alternate mark inversion (I-AMI). Performance analysis is done using FWM power, FWM efficiency, optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), received power, bit error rate (BER) and eye diagrams. A comparative analysis of the proposed system is also done with other previously published works. The results prove that the proposed OQPSK system is superior in mitigating FWM effect with better performance.
