Journal of Plant Growth Regulation Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

MYB transcription factors (TFs) are one of the largest TF families in plants. It can specifically bind with MYB cis-elements in the promoter region of eukaryotic target gene to regulate gene expression and widely involved in the regulation of plant growth and development, physiological metabolism, stress responses, hormone signaling, cell morphology, and pattern building. In order to have a clearer understanding of MYB TF family, this review comprehensively combs the research progress of MYB TFs in terms of origin and evolution, structural characteristics and classification, biological function, and stress response mechanism. In addition, the limitations of the current field and prospects for future research are also discussed, in order to provide a theoretical basis for further elucidating the transcriptional regulatory network of MYB TF family and breeding new crop varieties with strong stress resistance.
