Zusammenfassung
Den Ausgangspunkt dieses Beitrags bilden eine Kurzcharakterisierung und Einordnung institutionalistischer Theorieansätze. Zudem werden Charakteristika des Untersuchungsgegenstandes dieses Handbuchs – des konvergenten Kommunikationssektors – hervorgehoben, aus denen sich spezifische Herausforderungen und Anforderungen für anzuwendende Analyseansätze ergeben. Anschließend werden neo-institutionalistische Ansätze im Hinblick auf ihre medienökonomische Anwendung gewürdigt. Zur Erweiterung der Grenzen neo-institutionalistischer Ansätze wird abschließend die Kombination mit anderen Theorieansätzen zur medienökonomischen Erforschung des konvergenten Kommunikationssektors empfohlen.
