Abstract
Analytical expressions for calculating the transport nunber through a membrane were obtained. It was found that the transport numbers in a cation-exchange membrane should be divided into cationic and electrical. The transport number for lithium ions and the electric number for transport of ions through a Nafion membrane vary from 0.95–1.0 to 0.91–0.95 and from 0.46 to 0.40–0.44, respectively, when the current density increases from 0.5 to 2.0 kA/m2. The coincidence or closeness of the values of the transport numbers with the doubled equations indicates the adequacy of real membrane mass transfer described by the equations.
