Abstract
An approximate method is developed for description of the wave field of a distributed source in a multimode refractive waveguide with large-scale refractive-index inhomogeneities. The method is based on a mode representation of the field. The effects of inhomogeneities are taken into account by means of phases calculated along the so-called mode rays. The formulas derived are convenient for statistical analysis of a field in a region of unsaturated intensity fluctuations.
