Abstract
The use of metal–matrix composites are increasing day by day as compared to the alloys, on account of their superiority in terms of properties like hardness, tensile strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance etc. Reinforcement plays a very important role in deciding the properties of the composites produced. This paper focuses on the literature review of monolithic and hybrid metal–matrix composites produced using a variety of industrial-agro wastes as reinforcement materials and the effects of these reinforcements on the physical, microstructural, mechanical and tribological properties of the developed composites. The literature results revealed that the utilization of these industrial-agro wastes as reinforcement materials improved the overall performance of the developed composites and helped in reducing the overall cost of reinforcement also. The concluding part of the paper discusses the applications and the potential utilization of these wastes as reinforcement materials for the future research work.
