Development, Optimization, and Validation of Methods for Quantification of Veterinary Drug Residues in Complex Food Matrices Using Liquid-Chromatography—A Review

  • Published:
Food Analytical Methods Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Developing a suitable method to detect the analytes of interest is of prime importance especially when it comes to multiclass methods. Which, in recent times, is gaining popularity due to its merits such as reduced time, reduced labor consumption, and lesser analytical runs. As the complexity of the matrix increases, selecting a suitable sample preparation technique becomes essential in order to increase the sensitivity and selectivity of the method. And finally, validation becomes a primary concern to determine whether the method developed is fit for its purpose. This review focuses on all these aspects with respect to the analysis of veterinary drugs present in food matrices. Furthermore, it also discusses recent trends in sample preparation techniques used specifically in animal-based/derived foods for the determination of veterinary drugs. Recent developments focusing on improving the sensitivity, recovery, and efficiency of the developed method through chemometrics has also been discussed in this review.
