Abstract

Historically, phosphate esters have been prepared by the reaction of alcohols with phosphoric anhydride or polyphosphoric acid. Recently, hybrid reagents have been developed. A review of the commercial production of long-chain monoalkyl phosphate esters is presented. The titled esters are the subject of increased interest, especially in low-irritation surfactant formulations.
