Abstract
In situ observation and elemental mapping were combined to better understand the evolution mechanism of inclusions from CaO–MgO–Al2O3 to CaO–MgO–Al2O3–CaS in Al-killed Ca-treated steels at 1273 K to 1473 K. During the heating process, the surface layer of CaS gradually formed on the MgO–Al2O3 core in inclusions. The thickness of the surface layer increased with time. The higher heating temperature promoted the generation of the CaS phase in inclusions due to the faster element diffusion.
