Summary
A concise and rigorous treatment is given of the infrared divergences of quantum electrodynamics, by using a technique previously developed in connection with ultraviolet renormalization. The result is essentially equivalent to an extension of the classical Bloch-Nordsieck formula, and is independent of perturbative methods.
