Summary

Quenching of fluorescence of the pH probe, 4-methylesculetin, in bud initials ofAllomyces hyphae and yeast (Saccharomyces) vegetative cells confirms the cytoplasmic acidity (pH not more than 5) in such amitochondrial structures.
