Summary

Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (E. C. 4.1.1.31) was localized in the guard cells by an indirect, immunofluorescent technique using antisera raised against the enzyme from bothPennisetum glaucum R. Br. (pearl millet) andEscherichia coli. Of the 17 species of plants examined, only monocot species showed fluorescence with millet phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase antiserum and onlyNephrolepis exaltata (L.) Schott,Zygocactus truncatus Haworth, andEcheveria gibbiflora D. C. displayed fluorescence withE. coli phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase antiserum.
