Summary
-
1.
Under the conditions of the Diels synthesis.the nitrogen-containing system C=C- N=C reacts like the usual diene system C=C-C =C with formation of the corresponding pyridine derivatives.
-
2.
The diene condensation of oxazole homologs with maleic anhydride and with maleic acid gave 2,6-dimethylcinchomeronic acid and the previously undescribed 2,5-dimethyl-, 5,6-dimethyl-, and 2,5,6-trimethyl-cinchomeronic acids and 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro- 2-methyl-3,4-quinolinedicarboxylic acid.
