Abstract
This chapter will discuss some of the findings made by microelectrode recordings from the third-order sensory neurones in the thalamus in man; in particular the spontaneous activity of neurones, the characteristics of effective stimuli and, as a separate aspect, the response in neurones. Finally, the difficulty in defining the location and arrangement of thalamic areas will be considered.
