Abstract
Die These der wachsenden Wissenskluft behauptet, dass in Folge der medialen Informationsdarstellung Wissensunterschiede zwischen statushöheren und statusniedrigeren Bevölkerungsgruppen eher ausgeweitet als abgebaut werden, da Statushöhere in größerem Ausmaß von Medieninformationen profitieren. Diese These wurde erstmals in den 1970er-Jahren vom sog. Minnesota-Team explizit ausformuliert und seither in zahlreichen Untersuchungen empirisch geprüft, teils deutlicher Kritik unterzogen und in vielfacher Hinsicht theoretisch weiterentwickelt. Der vorliegende Beitrag beschreibt die Anfänge der Wissenskluftforschung, erläutert die Grundlagen derselben, stellt systematisch die Ausdifferenzierung des Ansatzes dar und skizziert abschließend den aktuellen Forschungsstand.
