Handbook of Health Decision Science

Abstract

Tailoring is a health communication practice that involves customizing messages to the individual. The current chapter provides an overview of tailoring, focusing on how it operates, communication channels used in tailoring, use of theory, and evidence of efficacy. The chapter concludes with a discussion of future directions for research on tailoring in health communication.
