Abstract
Nitrogen fertilization has been shown to effectively increase soybean yield at the early flowering stage (R1). However, the rapid effect of nitrogen enrichment on soybean nitrogen assimilation and distribution during R1 stage lacked reports. Continuous high nitrogen, low nitrogen, and enriched nitrogen during the R1 stage treatments were used on two different potential soybean yield cultivars (Liaodou11 and Liaodou14) at R1. The soybean nitrogen content, distribution, and assimilation were rapidly measured after nitrogen enrichment at the R1 stage. After nitrogen enrichment for 12 h, the NR activities in two cultivars’ leaves increased 75% and 46%, respectively. Nitrogen enrichment increased the nitrate reductase and nitrite reductase activities by upregulating their gene expression. In contrast, the glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamate synthase activities decreased rapidly, which suggested that the ammonium assimilation was inhibited. And the suppression of ammonium assimilation could regulate the absorption and assimilation of nitrates. The enriched nitrogen at the beginning of the flowering stage promoted nitrogen absorption and assimilation, increasing the nitrogen content in the soybean plant. The high yield cultivar Liaodou14 absorbed nitrogen faster than the common yield cultivar Liaodou11. Nitrogen enrichment at the R1 stage could improve nitrogen supply capacity by regulating nitrate and ammonia assimilation capacity.
