Summary

Schizophrenia and sexual abuse. Up to now sexual abuse in childhood has been investigated in context with neurotic and psychosomatic disorders, above all. Less Attention has been paid to the significance of experiences of sexual abuse preceding a psychosis, although very high rates of prevalence are found in literature.

Psychodynamic aspects of experiences of sexual abuse in conjunction with traumatic events are demonstrated, taking into consideration the “vulnerability-stress model” and “post-traumatic stress disorder”. The familiy, its structure and influence on the origin of a psychosis — interacting with other causative factors — are discussed.
