Sexuelle Funktionsstörungen sind häufig. Jede dritte Frau und jeder vierte Mann klagt über chronische sexuelle Probleme. Insbesondere sind auch Patienten mit psychiatrischen Störungen wie Depressions- und Angststörungen, Schizophrenien oder Abhängigkeitserkrankungen davon betroffen.
