Abstract

A discussion about “obstruction” in urology is hampered by rather vague and unspecific terminology. The term “obstruction” itself is used in many different ways and meanings for the upper and lower urinary tract. There seems to exist agreement that obstruction denotes a change in function to inefficient function with potential damage of the lower tract and danger for the upper tract. The same term “obstruction” is also used for accompanying symptoms and morphological alterations presumably causing and/or caused by obstruction.
