Zusammenfassung
Die operative Entfernung von Tumorgewebe ist das älteste Therapieverfahren für Tumorpatienten und bis heute der einzige kurative Therapieansatz solider Tumoren. Die ältesten Schriften zur chirurgischen Therapie von Tumoren reichen bis in das 16. Jahrhundert vor Christus zurück. Die modernde Ära der elektiven Tumorchirurgie begann 1809 mit der Entfernung eines Ovarialkarzinoms bei einer Patientin, die nach diesem Eingriff geheilt war und noch 30 Jahre überlebte. Diese Prozedur war die erste elektive abdominelle Operation und bildete den Grundstein für die Entwicklung der elektiven Tumorchirurgie.
