Zusammenfassung

Die hebräische Sprache verfügt über keinen Begriff, welcher der umfassenden Bedeutung von Ethik entspricht. Es wird auch nicht zwischen Ethik und Moral als der praktischen Anwendung der ethischen Prinzipien differenziert. Das Wort mussar, das ab dem Mittelalter für angemessenes menschliches Verhalten Anwendung findet, wird in der Hebräischen Bibel noch als das Erziehungsrecht der Eltern gefasst: „Höre, mein Kind, die Zucht [mussar] des Vaters und lasse nicht von der Weisung deiner Mutter!“ (Prov 1,8).

Was aber ist Mussar? Dass man eine Sache nicht im Verborgenen tut, derer man sich in der Öffentlichkeit schämen würde.
