Als Hans Jonas bereits 76 Jahre alt war, erschien 1979 die erste Ausgabe seines bekanntesten Werks Das Prinzip Verantwortung. Versuch einer Ethik für die technologische Zivilisation in Frankfurt am Main. Im hohen Alter erkannte er die drängende Notwendigkeit, über die kumulative Wirkung unserer gesamten, täglich angewandten Technologie nachzudenken.
