Abstract

This chapter first introduces the embryonic development of the neural plate into the neural tube and then discusses the central nervous system (CNS). The proliferation, differentiation, and migration of the neuronal and neural-crest cells are discussed. Finally, current studies on perinatal neuronal apoptotic death and its prevention by survival factors are introduced.
