Abstract
Sporotrichosis is a chronic disease caused by a soil fungus, Sporothrix schenckii. Typically, the disease produces suppurating nodules along the lymphatics of the skin and subcutaneous tissues with new lesions forming proximally as the older distal lesions heal slowly. Rarely, the process extends directly or via the blood stream beyond the skin to deeper structures, especially bone and synovial tissues. Lesions occur in other organs even less frequently.
