Abstract

This study is devoted to luminescent properties of the new [Yb(L)3(phen)] complex with near-infrared emission, where L is the anion of 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(naphthyl-2)butane-1,3-dione, and phen is 1,10-phenanthroline. It is shown that the electronic excitation energy can be efficiently transferred to Yb3+ ion electronic levels by selecting the ligand environment. To study the electroluminescent properties, a multilayer organic light-emitting diode (OLED) with the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PVK/Yb-complex/TPBi/LiF/Al structure is designed. The efficiency of the fabricated infrared OLED is close to the record values presented in the literature for the close type of the Yb3+ complexes.
