Preparation of 89Zr Solutions for Radiopharmaceuticals Synthesis

  • Published:
Radiochemistry Aims and scope

Abstract

Zirconium-89 is a promising radionuclide for nuclear medicine and has optimal nuclear-physical parameters for study of processes with slow kinetic. The increasing popularity of targeted imaging has led to a concomitant development of 89Zr radiopharmaceutical chemistry. At present, a tremendous amount of scientific work has been carried out in all fields: from production of 89Zr at accelerators to clinical studies of different radiopharmaceuticals. The review contains a description and comparison of various methods for preparation, extraction, and purification of 89Zr, and discusses the most common chemical forms used in the synthesis of the complexes.
