Abstract

Carbon-coated LiCoO2 and LiNiO2 compounds were prepared with a novel, fast, and very efficient microwave-assisted method within only minutes. This method provided highly dispersed LiCoO2 or LiNiO2 within a highly contacted carbon material. A remarkable high specific charge of about 179 and 270 A h kg−1 was achieved for LiCoO2 and LiNiO2, respectively. Moreover, due to the very high electrochemical stability about 89% for LiCoO2 and 97% for LiNiO2, respectively, of the discharge capacity remained after about 1500 cycles.
