Effect of 2:6-Dichlorophenol-Indophenol on Tumour and Kidney Respiration

Abstract

IT has recently been shown1 that 2: 6 dichlorophenol-indophenol, among other oxidising agents, inhibits reversibly glycolysis in muscle extract. It was of interest, therefore, to try the effect of this substance on tumour tissue. Though inhibition of glycolysis was not found, the effects on respiration were striking. The experiments were carried out with the Dixon-Keilin apparatus2 and the concentration of dichlorophenol-indophenol in the bicarbonate-containing medium was 1.3 × 103 M.
