A Criterion for the Thermodynamic Stability of a Liquid Based on the Wavelet Expansion of the Binary Correlation

Abstract

The study of local structures based on wavelet expansion has become popular over the last few years [2]. As applied to the theory of a liquid, wavelets realize the concept of smeared distributions analyzed in detail by Frenkel [1]. In the present paper, a modification of the stability condition for the liquid well known in the method of partial distribution functions is investigated based on the wavelet expansion. Limitations on the model parameters are obtained. The condition for stability loss of the liquid in the sense of crystal formation is determined.
