Abstract
The constrained plastic deformation at the front of a circular mode I crack under nonaxisymmetric loading in the crack plane is studied. It is shown that the normal stresses in the plastic zone depend on the polar angle and external stresses. The constraint is maximum at those points on the crack front along tangents to which the maximum external tensile stresses act
