Violent entrepreneurship in post-communist Russia

Abstract

The article examines the role of violent entrepreneurship in the process of state- and market building in post-communist Russia. The crisis of the state is the reason for the boom of violent entrepreneurship that can be classified into three different types, depending on their relation to the state. Main emphasis is put on the relationship between the recently emerging forms of commercialization of violence and the criminal world. The article shows how violent commercial organizations interact with state authorities and regular business companies.
