Russian Chemical Bulletin Aims and scope

Abstract

A secondary aliphatic amine, N-benzylmethylamine, significantly increases the rate of the chain reaction of N,N′-diphenyl-1,4-benzoquinone diimine with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole in toluene. The kinetic study shows that the increase in the rate is observed at the step of radical generation (chain initiation). The catalytic effect is due to secondary reactions involving a salt of N-benzylmethylamine with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, which is formed in the system.
