Simulation is considered for the data-acquisition process on the behavior of a mechanical oscillator in which the elastic element is subject to degradation. An analysis and a comparison are presented for the forward and inverse treatments. An algorithm has been devised for the dependence on time of the damping coefficient and natural frequency as determined from the behavior curve for an ageing vibrational system.
