An economic/analytical model is proposed for predicting investment efficiency criteria for nuclear desalination of seawater using reverse osmosis technology based on PWR (VVER) reactors. The proposed model makes it possible to determine the relationship between the admissible engineering and economic parameters of a cogeneration plant consisting of a nuclear power plant and a desalination plant, the volume of marketable products, the market price of electricity and desalinated water to justify the profitable operation of a nuclear desalination plant, depending on its capacity, capital and operating costs, construction period and plant operation, and discount rates. The calculated dependences of the break-even range of operation of a nuclear desalination plant with production and market constraints on the volume of marketable products for a specified period of return on investment are shown.
