The Fifth World Landslide Forum (WLF5) will be organized at the National Kyoto International Conference Center (KICC) in Kyoto, Japan, on 2–6 November 2021. As the COVID-19 situation is still unpredictable in many countries, the Forum will be organized in a hybrid mode. Oral presentations will be conducted through onsite, online/virtual, or prerecorded modes.

The WLF5 secretariat asked all oral presentation speakers to provide their preferences for the presentation mode by 31 March 2021. However, the speakers may switch the presentation mode by 15 September 2021. Then the updated presentation program will be made by the end of September 2021. The oral presentation program based on the replies from oral presenters by 31 March 2021 was reported and published in the June issue of Landslides (Sassa 2021a). A total of 479 speakers from 52 countries/regions have registered—125 from Japan, 56 from China, 53 from Italy, 21 from the USA, 14 from India, 13 from the UK, 12 from Indonesia and Chinese Taipei, and 11 from the Czech Republic and Norway. Currently, 240 speakers will be onsite speakers with an additional 159 and 80 online and undecided speakers, respectively. A list of names, offices, and titles of those oral speakers is to be published in the July issue of Landslides (Sassa 2021b).

The organizing committee has made the program of plenary sessions of WLF5 based on the information obtained by 5 June 2021. Plenary sessions will also be organized in a hybrid mode (onsite, online/virtual, or prerecorded modes). Since the COVID-19 vaccination was recently accelerated in Japan, the state of COVID-19 in November 2021 will be much clearer by 15 September 2021. We hope that the number of participants who will have finished both doses of the vaccination will have increased by the opening of WLF5 in November 2021.

The program for the plenary sessions of WLF5 as of 5 June 2021 is presented in the following table. Because the conference is in a hybrid mode, times are provided in three time zones: Japan Standard Time: JST, Central European Time: CET, and Pacific Daylight time: PDT as the reference for presentation mode (onsite, online/virtual, or prerecorded modes). Registration of oral speakers was closed. However, the registration for electronic poster presentation and nonspeakers remains open.
