History

A 44-year-old woman reported an insidious onset of lateral right hip pain for approximately 3 months. She denied any injury or trauma, but does state that she recently has been exercising intensely on nearly a daily basis, is now unable to run, and has trouble with climbing stairs. On physical examination, there was slight decreased range of motion of the right hip and pain with both internal and external hip rotation as well as with hip flexion. The patient had no other relevant medical history and had no history of fevers, chills, or paresthesias (Fig. 1).
