Abstract
The binding energy of the normal hydrogen molecule has been calculated by means of the variational method modifying the correlated molecular orbital method by introducing into the wave function a new wariational parameter determining the ratio between the atomic and ionic functions. The new wave function, in which both the atomic and ionic configurations are taken into account, has the following form ψ=[a 1 b 2+a 2 b 1+μ(a 1 a 2+b 1 b 2] (1+pr 12) wherea 1,b 1,a 2 andb 2 are ls atomic wave functions of electrons 1 and 2 centered about nucleia andb,r 12 is the interelectronic distance. The dissociation energy calculated by this method was found to be 4,14 ev with the values of parametersz=1,248, μ=0,356 andp=0,073 in atomic units. Comparing this value with the results obtained by the correlated molecular orbital method, we see that the present calculation gives a better value by 0,03 eV. The deviation from the experimental value is about 12 per cent.
Новая волновая функция, в которой и атомная и ионная волновые функции были учтены, имеет следующий вид: ψ=[a 1 b 2+a 2 b 1+μ(a 1 a 2+b 1 b 2)] (1+pr 12)
