Summary
Cultures were set with tissues from three species of insects, viz., G. mellonella, A. pernyi andM. melolontha in the basic medium (modified Trager’s C4) with haemolymph from each of them in a criss-cross way. The results when interpreted to see if there was any specificity in the action of haemolymph for the culture of tissues from a particular insectin vitro showed that:
(1) There is no specificity in the action of haemolymph.
(2) Slight differences in the action of haemolymph for the culture of different tissues exist but that does not appear to be specific, as tissues from all the insects showed a little better growth in the medium with haemolymph fromA. pernyi.
(3) The differences are explained to be due to possible differences amongst different haemolymphs in the richness of some organic and inorganic components.
