Redetermination: An interesting epigenetic phenomenon associated with mitotic agamospermy in sugar beet

Abstract

Pscudosegregation in sugar beet plants produced by mitotic agamospermy has been reconsidered. It has been demonstrated that essentially, pseudosegregation is redetermination, i.e. a change in the expression of the allele of an enzymatic gene such that the allele starts yielding a different product (a subunit or a molecule of the enzyme), rather than silencing. Possible mechanisms underlying the phenomenon of redetermination have been discussed.
