Abstract
During our screening program for hydrocarbon-degrading microorganismsPseudomonas fluorescens was isolated that grew on gasoline as the sole source of carbon and energy. During growth on gasoline it produced proline and tryptophan. Among the nitrogen salts tested, ammonium sodium hydrogen orthophosphate supported maximum amino acid production and growth. By optimizing the medium components a two-fold increase in proline and tryptophan production was achieved.
