Possible new electronic phase in semi-metals. - I

Summary

In this paper we have studied the problem of the excitonic phase in semi-metals by including a strong electron-phonon interaction term. The pure excitonic phase is found to be unstable under this possible condition. The different situations in which the electronphonon term is important are discussed. A new type of phase similar to the superconducting phase could be found. The different physical implications of such a phase are studied. A self-consistent field method is also developed such that electromagnetic responses can be studied.

In questo articolo si studia il problema della fase eccitonica nei semimetalli includendo un termine di interazione forte elettrone-fotone. Si trova che la pura fase eccitonica é instabile in questa condizione possibile. Si discutono le diverse situazioni in oui il termine elettrone-fonone é importante. Si può trovare un nuovo tipo di fase simile alla fase superconduttrice. Si studiano le diverse implicazioni fisiche di tale fase. Si sviluppa anche un metodo di campo autocoerente tale che é possibile studiare le risposte elettromagnetiche.

B этой работе мы исслед овали проблему экситонной фазы в пол у-металлах, включая чл ен сильного электрон-фононного взаимодей ствия. Получаетс электрон-фононного в заимодействия. Получ ается. что чистая экситонна я фаза является неста бильной при таком возможном усло вии. Обсуждаются различн ые ситуации, при котор ых электрон-фононный чл ен является важным. Мо жет быть найден новый тип фазы, аналогичной сверхпров найден новый тип фазы, аналогичной сверхпр оводящей фазе. фазе. Исследуются различн ые физические примен ения в такой фазе.
