Fast helium nuclei emitted from high-energy nuclear disintegrations

Summary

Secondary helium nuclei having energies between 80 and 500 MeV emitted from cosmie-ray disintegration have been studied. Mass measurements of these particles indicate that the majority of them are3He. The differential energy spectra of secondary tritons and helium nuclei are found to be identical. The star-size distributions for stars emitting tritons and helium nuclei are also similar. These observations indicate that the mechanism of emission of tritons and helium nuclei is the same.

Si sono studiati i nuclei di elio secondari aventi energie fra 80 e 500 MeV emessi nella disintegrazione dei raggi eosmioi. La misura della massa di queste particelle indica che, per la maggior parte, sono3He. Si trova che gli spettri energetiei differenziali dei tritoni secondari e dei nuclei di elio sono identici. Sono anche simili le distribuzioni delle grandezze delle stelle per stelle che emettono tritoni e quelle che emettono nuclei di elio.
