The electron-hole fluid in semiconductors

Summary

The phase diagram of the electron-hole fluid in photoexcited semiconductors at low temperatures remains partially a mystery. In the best-understood case, germanium, new results indicate that the phase diagram differs from that of simple fluids. A related discovery is that the exciton description of the gas breaks down near the Mott density.

Il diagramma di fase del fluido elettrone-buca in semiconduttori fotoeccitati a basse temperature rimane parzialmente un mistero. Nel caso meglio compreso, il germanio, nuovi risultati indicano che il diagramma di fase è diverso da quello dei fluidi semplici. Una scoperta correlata è che la descrizione dell’eccitone del gas perde valibità vicino alla densità di Mott.

Фазовая диаграмма электрон-дырочной жидкости в фотовозбужденных полупроводниках при низких температурах остается частично неясной. В наиболее понятном случае, германия, новые результаты указывают, что фазовая диаграмма отличается от фазовой диатраммы простых жидкостей. Также обнаружено, что экситонное описание газа нарушается вблизи плотности Мотта.
