Transformations in rare earth metals

Abstract

The crystal structures of rare earth metals and intrarare earth alloys are described and studies of the phase transformations in these metals are surveyed. Comparison is made with similar transformations in other alloy systems. Knowledge of the thermodynamics, kinetics and mechanisms of transformations in the rare earths is assessed and directions for future work are suggested.
