Abstract

Key experimental facts of highT c cuprates have been summarized briefly and the present status of theoretical understanding of these systems viewed as doped Mott insulators is given based on the slave-boson mean-field theory of the extendedt-J model with special emphasis on the spin-gap phenomena. It has been indicated that this spin gap is sensitive to disorder. Various questions including effects of fluctuations around this mean field theory treated as a gauge field are discussed.
