Summary
Retina free from tumor of an eye with retinoblastoma, and retina from an eye with an intraocular foreign body were examined electronmicroscopically. In the region of intravitreal detritus (tumor tissue and traumatically dislocated retina respectively), on both sides and inside the vitreoretinal basement membrane as well as in the intercellular spaces of the marginal glial cells granula with a diameter up to 550 A were observed. They correspond in greatness and form intramitochondrial granules, as they are also found in the intravitreal detritus material. From the localisation of the granules one can assume, that they are freed from the detritus material and get into the intercellular spaces through the basement membrane. Its occurence in the intercellular spaces shows the importance of the extracellular space of the retina for the exchange of particles between vitreous body and the retina.
